Is ridiculous. Car flippers will forever be a thing and for Ford to try and stop that is stupid. Considering a new GT went for $1.8 million at auction and I know there was another being widely shopped overseas a few weeks ago...Ford’s doing a piss poor job at trying to end flipping cars. We should be able to have nice things to then sell to buy more nice things.

I consider Mercedes to be the king of flipping cars.

I would agree, but he signed a contract. Cena agreed to wait for two year or give Ford a chance to buy it back. He had a choice not to take the deal and he took it in good faith.
It’s easy to be mad at Ford over this, but they have a limited supply of cars that they lose money on each one in order to reach homologation requirements for racing.
Ford wanted to leverage as much value for them in the process, and that means picking and choosing people who would own and show off the car instead of having them end up in some storage building on the other side of the World only coming out to go on the block to get flipped again.

Like Gerry said, Cena signed a contract, he knew what he was agreeing to. He could have just waited the two years and flipped it then and it wouldn’t have been a problem.

Cena should hit up the UAW to help him countersue for wages/salary.
They could easily claim he was “hired” as a “brand ambassador” (a marketing job)

I wouldn’t normally side with the behemoth company, but saying that because something exists and is even prevalent is a terrible argument against trying to protect yourself and what am I supposed to feel bad for the jackass millionaire who bought a car which he very explicitly agreed to not sell for two years and blatantly disregarded however many weeks after? Ford no doubt put a ton of time, money, and effort into vetting their customers for this exclusive car and it defeats that entire purpose if they were to just let this go instead of defend themselves.
Why did John Cena sell his GT anyway? Unless you told me that he sold off all his other cars and assets first to pay for some medical emergency, I’m just not hearing it. Maybe it turns out he absolutely detested the car and just couldn’t stand it wasting a spot in his garage... And couldn’t find long-term storage to hide away the stupid car for two years while it becomes worth more day by day?? I hope all the exclusive car makers blacklist John Cena.

I have a real problem with people being allowed to buy something that is then theirs, except it’s not really. If I own a car, I should be able to do what I want with it, including selling it on CL if I feel like it. In other words, that contract agreement should be uninforcible. And if Ford wanted to force people to keep the cars for two years, they should have awarded lease agreements, as I read somewhere

I get what Ford was trying to do with the contract, but the whole concept is BS.
I anything the rarity and inflation of cost is just boosting the GTs value. They’re not going to run out of buyers regardless of how expensive they could potentially get.
Look at the Nintendo NES classic mini when it came out. They were stupid popular and the rarity drove up the cost. I didn’t even know they were so popular til a buddy of mine got robbed at gunpoint trying to sell off a bunch he was lucky enough to find.
The whole post process concept is garbage. Imagine Nintendo saying “you now own this product but within the next year you cant sell it, paint it, mod it to play other games”. Sorry Ford but if I have title in hand I’m free to do whatever I want with that car - it’s my property and my decision.
I get what the contract is doing, what they’re fighting, but the concept is garbage. What if he bought it and learned after a month he hates everything about it? How about the Oppo that couldn’t take the Stinger GT on a taste drive without buying it. It’s a TEST drive- to test if I want it. Nah, Sorry Mr Cena but you absolutely hate out product but are stuck with it for another 10 months.

Greedy defendant was found guilty of “violating the non-resale clauses on several documents [that] he signed.”

Can’t help but wonder why Ford didn’t just price these things at seven figures to begin with? Seems that would have been more effective at keeping flipping from happening (and would have made them a lot more money).

If he didn’t like the ‘concept’ of the contract, he should not have bought the car.
No one forced him to buy it.

They have to give Ford first right of refusal.
Plus this is not an easy car to get, you have to apply and then be chosen by Ford to get to buy the car under their conditions. One of the foundations of being able to purchase the car is that you can’t sell it for 2 years, it’s clear as day for anyone buying it.
Considering Cena lost his case, I would say it’s fully enforceable.

Well I say it shouldn’t be. Unfortunately, my word rarely has the force of law, even in my own house.

Honestly, knowing Cena’s political stances, I wouldn’t be surprised if this wasn’t just some millionaire-style protest to clauses and contracts that say you don’t own the expensive thing you just bought.
If you read through all dozens of pages of Apple’s crap, you’ll see that you don’t pay $1,000 to own an iPhone X. No, that’s a license to use the device.
